1) three hooks in the celing, two small ones to go around wheels and one for seat making a triangle the bike will lay on the celing

 2) bike is vertical on the ground with a stoper on the back tier. the bars resting on the wall, a long string conected to weights and around the bike to keep it still.

criteria- bike storage, easy to asssembleconstraint- no perminant damage
the one one the left can only be done vertical.
the one on the right could be intergrated to have a bunji constrainer. but need two hooks or a post to back but maybe the closet has that.

Activity 3.1.3 graphic design

form magazine Inc. the magazine for growing companies
the Ford Taurus Sho is being marketed

1. What are trends? Why is it important to identify them prior to graphic design?
trends are something that is accepted as as the normal path or the style that things are done.
if a company is trying to market a certain thing it would be smart for them to know what the style is that people want to buy then they can build that style to asthetic need.

2. How does human nature play a role in how a product is marketed to a specific demographic group?
human nature wants more and more, atracted to powers. so if there is an object that will give them that of show that then people use it.

3. How is a potential audience identified?
you ask who would use this or who needs is potential for everone and if its in certian magazines the readers of them are potential.
it starts with need, people need to get around but when chosing a car you buy it for the extras. the extras are whats advertised and seperates them from other choices.

4. What must you discover about the target audience prior to graphic design?
if you have a group of people you want to have buy this product you should know there tendencys so you can acommidate them so more will buy. you wont buy something if there is anouther product that is better for your specificities.

deep dive video response

1. “From the buildings in which we live and work, to the cars we drive, or the knives and forks with which we eat, everything we use was designed to create some sort of marriage between ___________form______ and ____________function_____.”

2. The folks at IDEO state that they are not experts in any given area. But, they do claim to be experts on the __________desing process__________, which they apply to the innovation of consumer products.

3. After the team of designers is brought together, told the problem, and informed they have five days to “pull it off,” what phase of the design process do they immediately engage in?

brainstorming

4. Give two examples of what the team members did during this phase.

a.

said whatever idea they had
b.
expanded ideas and drawings, encourage wild ideas, talked to real experts

5. List five rules-of-thumb that IDEO employees follow when they share ideas during the brainstorming phase:

a.
 encourage wild ideas

b.
one conversation at a time

c.
stay focusesd

d.
differ judgement

e.

biuld on ideas of others

6. Why should wild (and sometimes crazy) ideas be entertained during the brainstorming phase?

its not good to discard ideas. crazy ideas could spark other ideas that can be used.

7. After the brainstorming phase was over, the team narrowed down the hundreds of ideas by _____________ for those ideas that were not only “cool” but also _________buildable________ in a short period of time. What phase of the design process is this called?7

8. IDEO believes that the ideas and efforts of a _____team_________ will always be more successful than the planning of a lone genius.

9. Once the ideas were narrowed down and divided into categories, the group was split into four smaller teams. What phase(s) of the design process was each of these groups responsible for?
talk to users, select an aprotch

10. The leaders at IDEO believe that ________positive________ behavior and a _______controled, equiped_______ environment are two important reasons why their employees are able to think quickly and creatively to produce innovative results.

11. Sometimes, people come up with great solutions that work by trying their ideas first, and asking for _________help________ later.

12. Design is often a process of going too far and having to take a few steps back. What phase of the design process would the critique of the four mock-ups come under?

explore possibilties

13. Upon critique of the four teams’ models, it was obvious that none of the teams had developed an optimum solution. However, the people at IDEO believe that it is important to ______fail_______ often in order to ______succed_______ sooner.

14. What percentage of the entire week’s time did it take to fabricate the final prototype?

a full day to set plans then full day of building

15. Instead of showering his design team with a tremendous amount of praise, what did the boss require his employees to do with their new design?

go to a market talk the "real professinals" get what they use and make it better

16. Of all the things that we are surrounded by every day, what has not been placed through the design process?

aspects of nature all proccsed thing are desinged

Conclusion

1. What did you find to be the most impressive part of the team’s effort?

the most impresive part was they thought of every sernario. they didnt leave a problem out, even though how they answerd the problem neede work.

2. What advantages are there to having a design team with members that have non-engineering backgrounds?

they have the peoples problem at heart, its not all about design but for funtion.

3. There was a point in the process where a self-appointed group of adults stepped up, stopped the ideas, and redirected the group to break up into teams. Why was this done?
smaller groups could work on differnt problems to get more done and be more productve with time.

4. At the end of the video, Dave Kelly states, “Look around. The only things that are not designed are the things we find in nature.” Can you think of anything that would contradict this statement?

spider webs, i dont know if spiders think about it but i like to think that they do.  they think what would make the best web. and make crazy webs.
art or abstract art isnt in nature and sometimes isnt designd

glider challenge

1)  the challenge is to make a glider with limited materials.
2)  as you said oxymoron, when we brainstormed as a team we all just said all sorts of things even if they didn't work it helped other ideas.
i was thinking the wings slant back so it makes an obtuse triangle.
or the wings are straight with slants at the end.
3)criteria, as a group we had make a glider that would fly and have hangtime using tissue paper, balsa wood and glue.
  constrints of limited materials.
modle-
Testing the glider

                  test phase
if something wouldnt work or changed we would have to fix it. for example the back was havier than the front so we put weights on the front. our goal was to compleat the glider and have it fly.
4)our
In the first round we won both the challenges, but in the second round Jordan and his group won the longest distance challege. something i didnt even think about was wings more flexible, so they move up and down whitch was very cool in order to keep the air under the wings at all times and the glider up.

class model glider, differnt parts/ colors

Reverse Engineering: Mechanicnal Product - Functional Analysis

the purpose of the product, the gaameboy advanced sp is to provide people with entertainment by playing games. So to go along with the product the are games. the gameboy gives people a joy and is practical for times when  you have to be mobile. personally thats why I like it so much.

my hypothisis how the product works is the game has data that the gameboy procceses and shows on the screen then there is a "directinal pad," left and right buttons, and buttons "A" and "B"  using them the product read that and you are able to control the game or quest your on.
well, hidden from view but make the mecanics of the product work are data cards inside of it and ports for the buttons.

sorry i couldnt make a black box diagram but this clearly layed out
          input---
Charged battery

opt in 02 Carnival Splendor

The problem started with a fire in the engine room, that stranded the people for three days. that set new problems because the people wernt doing anything and well thats not good for Carnavel.
the repair needed was first the engins that started the fire then the damage the fire caused. also all the other stuff that reacted to the other problems.
the local economy change because the shipyard sort of had to shift its prioritys from the nornal routine of docking and shiping off and acepting supplise to tryinng to solve the cruse ship problem.

Visual/ product analysis for the gameboy. this product has a shape targeted to appeal to kids, meaning it has a fun shape, so people will buy it. also it's smart to have a simple shape so people are in control of what they are doing. the shape is a curved square, its not to bulky and able to put in a pocket but the screne for viewing whats going on is still big enough to be good.

Engineering Design: Project 2.4.1 - Design Project

 1)    Trent and I were given the option of making a few differnt things on aoutodesk inventor. we chose the candy machine with a sort of differnt stye that what you might not see all the time.
2)     We actually didnt start with that design brief and were going to do the car, but that didnt work out. from that we decided on the candy machine mostly because we both had some ideas on it and could put them together.
3)   step one define the problem
the problem is that we need to design a candy machine that is workable.
   step two brain storm
started from scratch and had to make differnt designs. had a few aceptable choices but one idea was      just better.
    step four criteria and constraints
we had to meet the criteria of must be durable, cant be bigger than 8" wide x4" deep x 4" high, minimunm of four differnt parts once assembled, four unique candy shapes, and cant exceed 1/2" width, depth, hight or diameter.

4)

There is a slope inside of it to help the candy move down to the bottom. There is also an opening on top so you can refill it. There is a crank at the end of it so that you can control the amount of candy coming out.

opt in 01 less is more

The New Balance 890 is using the idea of "less is more" and with the drawings of shoes in the picture I can see how that would appeal to people on the market.  What New Balance did that they are calling the future of the running shoe. They didn't take anything out to make a better shoe but actually added new components; REVlite, a new sole of foam that makes the shoe way lighter and the runner faster. Thus less is more and elegance is shown to succeed over all.

servival at sea game

the game that was given to us was to prioritize 15 items on a list that would be needed for survival. after we did that on our own we got in team and all agreed on priorty.
the items i thought were most important were the water and food. I chose this first because i thought survival right from the beginning is most important. The least important items for survival were the small transister radio and the sextant. at first it was hard to place the sextant because i didn't know what it was or how it was used so that helped the placement of close to last.
something i thought was important that my team didnt think was important is the fishing supplys. but my team persuaded me that getting rescued could be quicker with item like the miir. so we came to an agreement in food and water to stay alive then the mirror and oil. for signaling.  our group was good at really thinking about if that was them how would they servive.
it was serprizing how the experets rated the items first was the shaving mirror, oil and water. it was a suprise to see that my first two choices wernt what a coat gaurd would chosse. and the experts main goal is to get rescued as opose to stay alive right then.

visual design: elements and pricipals

1. the six visual desing elements are Line, Color, Space, Texture, Form/shape, and Value.

2. the five viual desing pricipals are balence, rythem, emphasis, proportion/scale, and utility.

3. five items

this is an example of horizontal lines and vertical lines

this color wheel is an example of color and also curved lines.

you can see the texture so you must feeel it.

this sign shows balence.

these dancers have rythem and the sculpture shows curverd linns.

content is king

A hobby of mine that I love doing is snowboarding. I share that with my brother we love that time together on mountians. Lots of snowboard companys use blogs to permote there riders and there gear. They also use blogs to show news of what new and trips that are gooing on.  i could see myself bloging about the field of snowboarding. Just to stay connected to it  and learn from it.  I think the best part of it is when people from all over talk about the same goal that everyone has, like some one will ask a question and someone else will answer it.

tennis ball game

The challenge is to get everyone on the team to touch the ball and to do it faster than the other teams.
Our team came up with the idea to get everyone to slant there hands like a slide so the ball just rolls down still meeting the criteria of everyone touching it.
That plan worked out great and we did it in a respecable time.
If doing it agian, I would do the same slide plan.
If doing it agiam, I would get evereyone to line up there hand so there are no bumps that slow the ball down if we neeeded to go faster.
The game was a fun team building experience. It was cool to hear other peoples thoughts on what to do and make the best choice.
